Endocrinologist?: Is your doctor an endocrinologist or a thyroid surgeon? There are non-surgical options available that should be explored first. Surgery is not the first choice.

Possibly: If you truly do not have graves disease or thyroiditis, you most likely have a toxic nodule or toxic multinodular goiter. In this condition, there are areas of your thyroid that are working on their own to make too much thyroid hormone. Most endocrinologists in the us would recommend treatment with radioactive iodine rather than surgery.

An overactive: Thyroid can also be treated successfully with either radioiodine or anti-thyroid drugs and avoid the potential risks and dangers of surgery. Talk it over with your doctor, and even consider getting a second opinion before making your decision.
