Carpal tunnel: A branch of the median nerve malfunctioning is the most likely explanation of your symptoms. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common cause of such numbness due to median nerve compression at the wrist. But dysfunction of a branch of median nerve, not actually in the carpal tunnel can cause symptoms too.
