What should be my first steps if i have a painful breast lump?

See your Dr.: I am assuming you have a primary care physician or gyn serving that purpose. The first step is to go and be examined. Most breast lumps are benign so stay calm but don't put off this examination. Your doctor will probably recommend some form of imaging and may recommend that you see a breast surgeon. I think that would be a good idea and my recommendations for first steps.

See you doctor: Most painful breast lumps are benign cysts. These can usually be resolved quickly in a simple office aspiration. You physician may choose to order a mammogram first but if it feels like a simple cyst, an office aspiration can resolve the issue and your anxiety!
