A member asked:

Are dentists considered physicians? if not, why does healthtap refer to dentists as physicians?

Yes: Dentists are doctors just like your physicians. The only difference is they focus on different part of your body. Nowdays, most dental school changed the dental degree to dmd which is doctoriae of dental medicine. Their education covers the whole medical field not just teeth. We are treating our patients as a whole not just their teeth. Because oral health can not be isolated.

Both are doctors: Dentists and physicians are both doctors. DDS stands for doctor of dental surgery. A dentist also could have DMD after their name. I hope this helps.
