Try not to: For all of our contact lens patients, we recommend backup glasses. Why? As a contingency plan in case a complication arises. It's best to not rely on contact lenses alone.

Yes: There is no problem with going straight to contact lenses for a refractive problem. Most patients like to have a "back up" pair of glasses as they may wish to wear them part time ( after taking contacts out before bedtime, if eyes are irritated, etc.).
