A formula: Long qt is determined by taking a measurement from an ekg and applying a simple formula to correct for the heart rate. Certain drugs and inherited conditions can cause this interval to prolong. When the interval is particularly long (greater than 500 ms), it can, under the right circumstances, put a patient at risk of having a serious heart rhythm problem.
