Serious and Numerous: This is a big topic. There can be both short term and long term effects from childhood abuse and neglect. The consequences of being abused as a child can be mild or severe with problems in the areas of depression, anxiety, suicidality, substance abuse and criminality-but those aren't all. Some great information is at the website for child welfare information gateway. http://www.childwelfare.gov/.
