Yes: About 2% of patients after a disectomy get recurrent pain over the same nerve distribution several weeks after surgery with 50% of these improving over a 2 year period. The rest can either live with their pain or be managed on medication or with injections through pain management or even with a device implanted called a spinal cord stimulator.
