Infection: of the vagina with bacteria can occur without sexual activity due to changes in diet or careless hygiene. Keep yourself clean, after toileting wipe yourself front to back and consider adding a probiotic like yogurt, sauerkraut or kimchee to your diet. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

BV treatment: This usually means bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of mostly normal bacteria. I don't understand "not severe enough to treat". If BV is noticeable and bothering you, it should be treated (you're in charge, not doc!). Discuss again with your doctor or get a second opinion. There are only prescriptions, no proved self treatments. Most imporant, do not douche, will make it worse and maybe harmful.
