Bacteria: Alittle unusual for it to happen 2-3 months after surgery. But you may have gotten something into your bloodstream which could have seeded the knee joint.

Late infection: Could be the standard bacteria like staphylococcus aureus but with such a long period of time, one must consider more indolent organisms such as fungi or acid-fast bacilli.
