What can be done for psychotic depression?

Usually two choices: The two choices one generally has as options for psychotic depression are medications and electroconvulsive therapy or ect. Medications would usually include a combination of an antidepressant plus an antipsychotic drug. I wonder how you know that either you or someone else has psychotic depression and what has been done for in the past? It is a very serious condition requiring psychiatric care.

SEVERAL OPTIONS: There are multiple things that can be done if this an accurate diagnosis. If the diagnosis is depression with psychotic features then you would use an anti depressant and an anti psychotic. If it is bipolar disorder with depression and psychosis you would start with a mood stabilizer and an anti psychotic and try to have minimal exposre to anti depressants . Additionally supportive therapy.
