Muscle spasm: A stitch or muscle spasm is the most common reason. Do you run often? Is it every time you run? Where on your side? How long does it last? An infrequent runner may have little stitches when they run as they are nor conditioned for that. A frequent runner is different. Consider a chiropractic evaluation. You may have a misalignment that contributes. May want to tell your doctor as well.
