Many ways: Keratosis pilaris results from buildup of keratin which plugs the hair follicles of skin. It may occur in association with genetic diseases or with other skin conditions, such atopic dermatitis. Example of a genetic disease in which it happens are noonan syndrome. There may also be predisposing genes that run in a family and cause keratosis pilaris also to occur in otherwise healthy people.
