Depends: The answer depends on the anatomy of the problem and of course the symptoms present. Many people have degenerative discs and live pain free. Fusions can be done if there is instability or deformity present. Disc replacement can be done in the absence of instability and deformity if the patients pain correlates well with the imaging findings. See a spine surgeon to discuss further.
