Avoid excess salt: This is good advice generally and perhaps your physician will agree and/or add other suggestions. Of course, stuff that folks tend to overeat (greasy stuff, stuff loaded with refined sugar) is best avoided, especially while you're pregnant.

Pregnancy diet: In general you want to eat a low carbohydrate, vitamin rich diet. So, lots of veggies, lean protein. Avoid too much lake fish and some fatty salt water fish may be an issue, avoid excessive sugar and caffeine. Most OB providers will have a healthy pregnancy diet you can have and online there are lots of resources for pregnancy diets. Its mostly common sense. If you eat healthy so does baby!

Alcohol/uncooked foo: Avoid the following in pregnancy: unpasteurized dairy products/juices, undercooked meats (including poultry/fish), alcohol, excessive fish consumption (no more than twice weekly), taking into account fda recommendations regarding specific fish content in methylmercury (in general avoid large fish). Be careful about fresh fruit/salads - they must be washed thoroughly by someone you trust.
