Wash your hands alot: Contact with contaminated surfaces, e.g. Doorknobs on cruise liners have caused epidemics of nasty GI viruses. Good hygiene. Don't share bites. Careful with food prep-uncooked animal stuff is contaminated til proven otherwise (or cooked), keep separate from other stuff you are cooking.; don't double dip. Wash all produce (even organic) before eating. Wash your hands often, especially before eating.
