Tincture of time : Time for scars to mature will often produce the best scars. Eating a well balanced diet while avoiding sun and tobacco use is also important. Topical scar massage may also help. Honey, banana leaves, aloe vera, allium cepa, arnica montana, cocoa butter, etc are all rumored to provide some homeopathic relief.

Forever Present: A scar forms when there is healing of an injury to the tissues. Remember that with almost all wounds, healing continues for months and months as we change the stress on the tissues. A scar forms as a result and may have many different appearances and colors. Any dark coloration may fade over time but the tissues never are the same and so some scarring will always be there.

Can only Improve: You cannot "erase" scars. Poor scars can be improved through the following methods: 1) scar massage 2) silicone sheeting (a kind of silicone tape you where over the scar) 3) steroid injections 4) laser treatment (helps remove coloring) 5) scar revision (removing the scar and starting over). Consult with a plastic surgeon to find out which combination of these would best work for you.
