Irregular heartbeat: The "shimmering or shivering" in the chest makes me wonder if you're feeling your heart skip? Night time is the most common time people feel this. Cardiac exam may well be normal when your heart is behaving. A 24 hour (holter) recording or 30 day event monitor exam (depending on how often you feel this) will confirm the diagnosis or rule it out.
