What causes me to gnash my tooth during sleep?

Several causes: Although teeth grinding can be caused by stress and anxiety, it often occurs during sleep and is more likely caused by an abnormal bite or missing or crooked teeth. You may have a sleep apnea disorder as well. I would contact your dentist to discuss the problems and possibly have a sleep study to determine if sleep apnea is causing the problem.

Grinding Teeth: Grinding teeth is very common in many people. Causes can be your bite is off, stress, tmj, just to name a few possibilities. It's important that you go to the dentist to find the cause and a treatment plan can be formulated. It's important to have this examined as you don't want to break teeth during sleep or stimulate or cause TMJ issues.

Couple causes: Two known causes include stress and sleep apnea. There is little scientific evidence to support that a poor bite causes tooth gnashing.

Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists.
