Chromosomes abn.: A genetic disorder is an abnormality in the genetic makeup of an individual, abn expression of chromosomes, (your internal blueprint). This may have been inherited from parents, or a result of a spontaneous change in genes.
Epogenetics is the expression of your genes and can be influenced by environment and nutrition. So it doesn't always have to "run in the family".

Genetic syndrom: For any medical condition, there is a contribution from genetics, environment, diet, development etc. For some disorders the greatest contribution is genetic. For example pku is a rare genetic disorder. This means all individuals with a genetic alteration in the pku gene develop the disease. In addition, a genetic disorder is often defined by having a set group of signs and symptoms.

Abnormal genes: A genetic disorder is caused by one more abnormalities within a genome. These abnormal genes can be inherited from your parents or can be a sporadic change. There are many genetic disorders that are caused by one abnormal gene, but there are also many other disorders that have both genetic and environmental components. Some of these disorders are present at birth and others manifest later in life.

How is galactosemia a genetic disorder?

Recessive defect: Our parents give us genetic information in gene pairs at conception. If a critical enzyme can be produced with information from just one gene, it is called dominant. Parents who carry one bad gene in a pair don't have symptoms, but can pass the bad gene to baby. If baby gets 2 bad genes at conception, they cannot make the enzyme.Galactosemia results from inheriting recessive bad genes.

Yes: Bipolar disorder disorder definitely runs in families. There has not yet been found a specific genetic link, but much research is being done in that area. Even though there is likely a genetic link, the expression of symptoms may be variable.
