Knee brace after TKA: It may provide stability if there is an mcl or lcl issue, or if there is some muscular imbalance. Generally braces aren't used postop unless there is a good reason to do so.

Not typically needed: After a total knee arthroplasty or replacement surgery, a knee brace is usually not needed. Only for the first few days will the knee feel very weak and unstable- during this short period of time a brace or immobilizer may help. Getting the muscles that stabilize your knee healthy and strong after surgery is more important than the use of any type of brace.
