Read below: If the toenail is falling off, it is best to remove the loose portions of the nail. Then clean it daily with alcohol and use some form of antifungal cream or see your podiatrist for help with this situation. Do not use a fake or acrylic nail as this will promote rapid fungus accumulation under the new incoming toenail.

You could simply: Polish the nail bed where the nail was. Or you could have a fake nail put on, or you can take advantage of the fact the nail is off and treat the nail bed with an antifungal agent. Nails are hard to treat for fungus, skin is easier, so if the nail is not present it is easier to treat than when the nail is present.
