Sometimes: Smoking and second hand smoking increases the risk of developing macular degenreration, which can negativelly impact central vision. It also has been shown to increase the prevalence of a particular form of cataract called nuclear sclerotic. In some patients with very poor diets who imbibe excess alcohol, smoking may also be associated with optic nerve dysfunction.
