A member asked:

What is "skilled" pt? why would a 92 year old not be a candidate for it when getting weak quadriceps after pelvic fracture?

PT: Agree. Not sure why the word "skilled" is used. A weak quad after pelvic fracture requires a skilled therapist to promote balance, strength and modality. Who would want a "non skilled" therapist?

Skilled: Perhaps the hospital is trying to differentiate between acute care, skilled care, rehab, & extended care facilities--all which have different "qualifications" to enter. Pt should benefit this patient.

Skilled care is the level of home health provisioning nurses or level of nursing home qualification for Medicare insurance to pay
