Is amblyopia caused by trauma?

Generally NO: Amblyopia is usually a developmental problem however if an eye injury is bad enough to change the vision in a young child and a clear image is not restored then amblyopia may result.

Possibly: If an eye is damaged before a person's visual system has fully developed (age 8 or so) amblyopia is a common result.
