Blood test: Your doctor can do a blood test called hemoglobin a1c. This test would give a rough appraisal of your blood sugars over a 3 month period. If elevated, your doctor may help you work on a plan to knock it down and re-test you in three months for further discussion. If normal, you're not diabetic, but a discussion about why you're concerned and next steps is also warranted.

Blood test: The standard way it to test for blood glucose in fasting state. If the results are equivocal, a glucose tolerance test may be needed. A1c test is useful but not as accurate as blood glucose test. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
