Usually Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy is the mainstay for treatment and depending on factors such as age, cancer subtype, performance level, etc. The type of chemotherapy is decided by your oncologist. Cure is not possible but survival can be prolonged. Radiation is used for certain situations (pain, bleeding, cancer spread to brain, etc). Enrolling on clinical trials for patients is encouraged.

Personalized therapy: Nowadays, treatment for metastatic lung cancer is individualized based on the type and biology of the cancer. Some genetic profiling evaluation would probably need to be done on the cancer cells-to guide you doctor in selecting best treatment for you. For majority , treatment will be combination of regular chemotherapies plus minus biological therapy vs clinical trials. Discuss further with your md.

Chemo/radiation: Chemotherapy and radiation are the mainstays of treatment, and there are other options depending on where exactly the metastases are. Metastatic lung cancer has an uniformly bad prognosis and palliative care/hospice is another excellent choice, patients who go for that have been shown to survive longer and have a better quality of life than patients who opted for treatment.
