See below: If you are out of shape, i would think that you would start having breathing problems within minutes but true asthma takes about 15-20 montes or longer to show itself after exercise starts.

Can be challenge: Distinguishing between deconditioning and exercise asthma can be a challenge. An exercise challenge may be helpful but unless they are done under the same conditions as when symptoms occur it may be normal. Checking peak flow data pre and post exercise may be helpful. A therapeutic trial of albuterol may be an option.
