How do you have a seizure from movies?

3 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Flickering of lights: Seizure activity can be triggered by flashing/flickering lights like could occur in a dark theater during a movie, or by turning lights on and off rapidly or letting lights flicker off a faceted turning sphere as during a band performance or a dance. People with recurrent seizures/epilepsy are often warned to avoid rapidly flashing or flickering lights.

Photoconvulsive: There are people who are sensitive to certain frequencies of flickering lights. This can occur from a movie, television program, flickering overhead lights or the flickering of sunlight through the leaves of trees.
