Treat : The infection with a fungus medication. Prevent it from comming back by good hygene, disinfect shoes. And use an anti-fungal cream 3 times a week.

Anti- fungal : Medication will help kill the fungus. Keeping it away is often a challenge. I recommend maintenance application of the medication couple of times a week. Shoes may also have to be disinfected, making sure to wear clean socks. If feet sweat, controlling the sweat etc...Many variables come into play as you can see.

Read below: Athletes foot fungus loves to grow in a warm moist sweaty environment. There is no way to permanently get rid of this problem, but if you keep your feet dry, spray your shoes nightly with lysol, get out of wet socks, wear sandals, use powder in shoes and athletes foot medicine as needed.
