Allow self-calming: A consistent bedtime & routine, reading, soothing, wiping out mouth after the last feed, & putting baby in his own crib drowsy but awake to self-regulate falling asleep helps him consolidate sleep between 1- 4 months & prevents sleep problems related to development of implicit memory @ 5 mos. & learned behaviors @ 6 mos. www.aap.org has tips on graded ignoring of night-waking for 6 mos. & older.
