There are many: If the complaint is limited to burning sometimes i like to use alpha-lipoic acid in high concentrations. So you would want to use 900-1800mg in divided doses. Look for brands that have 600-900mg so you only have to take 2-3 pills a day. This is over the counter and is very popular in europe.

Many options.: If the symptoms are due to neuropathy, topical capsaicin may be helpful for some, while others may benefit with oral medications. Watch you sugar intake, and have your vitamin b levels checked and supplemented as necessary. Consult with your physician for an appropriate plan of care.

See AAN Guidelines: Pregabalin (lyrica) seems to be the best option for most folks, but other medications may be used, based on the individual needs e.g.: if Pregabalin is not tolerated, or another medication is preferred like an antidepressant to treat depression as well, or a topical such capsaicin to avoid drug interactions, etc.. See: www.Aan.Com/practice/guideline/uploads/480.Pdf for a summary.

Two commonly used: Lyrica (pregabalin) or Neurontin (aka gabapentin) are the most commonly prescribed medications for neuropathic pain.

Another approach: Certainly pts do well symptomatically on lyrica, gabapentin, cymbalta, or even savella, (milnacipran) but a medical food, metanx has definite research evidence of restoration of small fibres in diabetes, which is the source of the burning (takes 6-12 months to help). Also, there might be superimposed tarsal tunnel syndrome, which may be fully reversible.
