Is tryptophan effective for sleep?

Tryptophan: Tryptophan is an Amino Acid that can be bought over-the-counter without prescription and helps some people with sleep. It is in high content in some foods such as turkey and high consumption can have the same effect. The research evidence is mixed and it does not meet the criteria of the fda for treatment of sleep problems. However, given that it is generally very safe it is probably worth a try.
