Get checked first: Usually panic attacks are not that debilitating and the person is fine until the next one. Your situation makes me wonder if something else may be going on. As you say you plan to travel, it only makes sense for you to get checked out by a physician before leaving. It may be something requiring attention and the medical system where you are headed may be inadequate. It's better to safe than sorry.

Eval & RX PD: Minor tranquilizers help anticipatory anxiety but don't usually control panic attacks--i'd see a psychiatrist who can treat the pd probably with a ssri & possibly cbt.
