Yes: The definition of hypertension is repeatedly high blood pressure in the office. Heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and peripheral artery disease are all increased compared to those who have normal blood pressure. Depending on how high and what you have already tried, your doctor may recommend medications. If we treat high blood pressure we are able to decrease many of it's complications.

YES: If your blood pressure is only elevated in the office it important to exclude white coat hypertension. A 24 hour ambulatory blood pressure monitor is helpful or log of blood pressures at home will help decide. If you do have whitecoat hypertension medications could cause hypotension. Discuss with your doctors.
