Why can't i taste when i am sick?

Nasal congestion: The sense of flavor is 100% dependent on your sense of smell. When your nose is all blocked up you temporarily lose that sense. You actually can still taste salty, sweet and sour but its flavor that you will miss until your nose clears up.
