Silicone Gel: A keloid is a growth coming from a scar. It is a very uninhibited production of scar tissue. Usually, surgical excision is performed followed by radiation and silicone gel application for at least three months. Silicone gel comes in thin, flexible sheets and as a liquid that can be painted onto the scar and allowed to dry. The longer it is used, the more effective, up to about 3 months or so.

Keloids: As the previous vice president for the keloid foundation, I am going to very frank. The lotions and potions over the counter can pretty much do nothing for a keloid. You need strong topical steroids, interferon or steroids in the form of injections. Please seek out a very experienced dermatologist if you decide you want to start treat and stick with it.
