Dentist: It is very normal for a deep filling to be sensitive after it has been filled. Often times it can be sensitive to cold for a week or two. Sensitivity to hot is never good that normally means a root canal may be needed. But you should call your dentist sometimes the filling may be a little high which could be causing the dull ache, and they will need to adjust the bite.

See a dentist: Dull ache 10 days after filling redone is not normal. Please return to the dentist to make sure the bite is correct, and everything is intact. It is possible that you may need a procedure called a root canal. The sensitivity you are describing is consistent with that, and is sometimes a consequence of replacing a filling, especially if large or deep.

Root canal tx: You likely are dealing with a condition called irreversible pulpitis. This means that the tooth is unable to recover from the combined trauma it has endured over the years. A guideline for us is that if the tooth is sensitive to heat (as well as cold) then the chances are overwhelming that the tooth is dying. You need to see an endodontist asap for root canal tteatment and relief.
