UNUSUAL: Lumbar punctures are almost invariably safe, but on occasion, minor complications occur. The area of interest is surrounded by numerous veins, and a blood vessel can be punctured leaving a small focal hematoma or bruise. This may loculate and become a seroma over time. Typically, this resorbs leaving no eventual problem. It is unlikely that a local infection is present. Talk to dr who did lp.

Be patient: Ive had many patients tell me through the years that they can still feel the place where the needle was inserted for their lumbar puncture. Disruption of ligament fibers from the supra spinous ligament in your spine can cause discomfort for some time. As long as there's no fever, chills, sweats, redness nor inflammation, it should be ok. You can always see your family dr for questions.
