Normal vs abnormal: Some increase in heart size is normal during pregnancy because blood volume increases 1and half times from pre-pregnancy level. These all return to baseline 6 weeks after delivery. Abnormal increase in heart size associated with weakening of the heart muscle is a rare disease that can develop at the end of pregnancy called postpartum cardiomyopathy. This needs specialized care and follow up.
