20 weeks: If you know exactly what to listen for, the room is quiet, good stethoscope and thin patient, 20 weeks if you are lucky. Otherwise, probably not before 26 weeks, if then. With a stethoscope the fetal heart sounds like a faint tap; you can almost feel the percussion from the heart more than you can hear it. It goes tap, tap, tap.
