Because: There is poor oxygen and nutrion in the blood supplying the tissue....The vessels are also usualy inflammed and damage has occured to the vessel walls..All this sets up an undesirable situation which is often painful.

Nerve damage: Vasculitis is inflammation of the blood vessel which decreases the blood flow causing tissue damage. This leads to loss of blood supply and tissue damage including nerve supply which leads to pain from the damaged nerves.
