It depends: Most clavicle fractures are treated without surgery. When they are severely displaced or shortened surgery is indicated.

Clavicle: If non-displaced and in the middle 1/3, non-surgical treatment includes rest in a sling. If displaced or broken in the distal 1/3, then surgical stabilization with plates, screws, pins, wires, etc. Is indicated.
