A member asked:

Is it true that your chances to get pregnant increase after having a benign cyst removed off your ovary?

Yes and No: Cysts on one's ovary can inhibit fertility, so having them removed can increase your fertility. Having said that, women with cysts on their ovaries become pregnant all the time, so it's not necessarily the case that having a cyst will make you infertile.

Not really: A simple cyst does not really affect pregnancy. And surgery itself does not really affect pregnancy. Sometimes scarring can occur from surgery that reduces fertility but that is not so common. And sometimes a cyst can be endometriosis which is benign (meaning not cancer) and removing that can increase fertility.

Not necessarily: Best to consult with your gyn or infertility specialist. Most ovarian cysts do not directly cause infertility. In addition, surgery may sometimes cause pelvic adhesions that may result in blocking the fallopian tubes, which may cause infertility.
