No: No, you don't have to stop completely but you will need to slow down a bit for a little while. It sounds like you overdid it - don't worry, that's a common problem when starting an exercise program. You need time to allow your body to adjust. In the meantime, buy knee braces at the drug store and wear them during the daytime - it will move the stress of standing/walking off your knees to your legs.

Maybe: Often you are just over doing it to start. Try reducing the distance and making sure you have good running sneakers. Give yourself a day or two to recover in the beginning between running days. Ice knees after you run. Stretch before and after.
