A member asked:

What is the success rate of doxycycline in the curing of bone infection?

Osteomyelitis: A true bone infection (osteomyelitis) is serious and requires usually IV drug treatment for few weeks. Doxycycline will generally not be the drug of choice and not very successful. You would need xrays, MRI or ct scan to confirm the diagnosis. Not treating it correctly or incompletely may result in the need of major surgery.

Doxycycline : The success rate is dependent on various factors. The type of bacteria, the sensitivity of the bacteria to the antibiotic, the length of time treated with IV antibiotic and the type of bone infected.
