Lovely: It may not be a cold. If it's primarily nasal discharge, anything from a serious sinus infection to a retained foreign body to nasopharyngeal cancer. If it primarily a chest cold, anything from a viral pneumonitis to the beginning of a serious interstitial lung disease to tuberculosis. If your family physician can't handle it, a pulmonologist's appointment is worth considering.

Maybe not a cold: Commom viral upper respiratory infection(uri) or cold often lasts 7-10 days for adults, but coughing may lingers a bit longer. Usually symptoms are worse first 2-4 days, then progressively improve. If symptoms longer than 2 wks, and no fever/not feeling ill, cough is dry etc..You may have some seasonal allergies. Try some claritin/zyrtec/pseudofed etc... If not better, consult doc. Good luck.

Cold tips: for sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). * for congestion – saline nose drops or a neti pot. *for anti-inflammatory effect ; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.**for hydration- lots of water. Try clear broth. * add honey ; a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea. Seek medical evaluation if sxs are not abating.
