No - salt is not: a treatment for cold sores.

Cold sore: No, of course not. But it will hurt. The salt may dry out the fluid but wont treat the viral infection. You may consider trying OTC abreva topical. You can also ask your doctor for prescription of antiviral (such as Valtrex) to take prior to a flare up to prevent it or expedite resolution of an outbreak.
