Digital nerve: Perhaps the digital nerve on the side of the thumb has been injured, and very trivial activity can affect this. The symptoms could be associated with very early carpal tunnel syndrome. If the arm and neck hurt, may represent a primary neck radicular pain. If digital nerve, should resolve fully in about 3-4 weeks. If involves more digits, see your doctor.

Nerve issue: This may be compression of a nerve. There are several potential spots for this. If it doesn't resolve then i would see your doc to get an accurate diagnosis.
