If these are recurrent is possibly caused by staph bacteria and increasingly more common a specific type of staph bacteria called MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus). If this is the case it can be treated with an oral antibiotic and often the concomitant use of an antibiotic ointment intranasally. Occasionally these have to be drained surgically.
